There was originally water in the picture, but it got cropped out. I thought the boat was a good representation of the water, so the actual water wasn't necessary.
In art classes, they teach you to blur your vision while looking at whatever it is you're working on to give you a different perspective. It helps you seen shadows and highlights without getting bogged down in the details. I did that with this image, and a face popped out at me created by the shadows in the trees; hence the title.
